This is the Flow Tai Chi – Short Form.
It has 54 movements and is the central tool in the Tai Chi toolkit. The form, although important, is only one portion of the full Tai Chi curriculum. Push Hands, Meditation, Qi Gong, Breath Work, Martial Art Application, Tao Yin Fa, 24 Technical Exercises, Weapon Training can also be practiced if you wish to do so. Practicing the form alone, is still of great benefit to you.
Traditionally, Tai Chi is practiced with the long Form which contains 108 movements. We can also teach you the long form, but we found that it is too long, hard to memorise and perform and generally unpopular. It would be a pity to throw away the whole Tai Chi experience just because the main exercise is too difficult to memorise. The Short Form contains all the movements of the long form, but without the repetitions, so the short form does not lose any potency and relevancy at all; it is a great form and just as good as the long form.
Zhan Zhuang (Post Standing) is the most valuable practice of them all, but it is somewhat a bit dull for most.
It is unfortunate because the simple fact of standing still has extremely profound effects on your practice and general health. It needs to be experienced to be understood.
Regular practice is fundamental in martial art application, Qi Gong, and perfecting your body alignment for you to be able to move as one solid unit.
Old masters started teaching a new student with Zhan Zhuang ONLY and for three years prior teaching the anything else.
I have practiced it extensively, and it really is the most precious thing I have learnt.
